There is nothing better than salt in the air and sand in my hair (what's left of it).

March 31st

Today was a no surfday for me - early morning meetings with Europe.

It looks like we had unfavorable winds - I took this photo of Scotsman's cove on the way to work.   Looked lumpy, but I bet uppers was OK.

March 30th

Took a chance and dawn patrolled today - most of the forecasts said there would be unfavorable winds.   Dave, Gene and I had it to ourselves for about an hour.   It was waist to shoulder high, kind of wind swelly and inconsistent but the new sandbar in the bay was really good when the south energy came through.   I had that pretty much to myself.

I forgot I took these pics Saturday March 27th - not too crowded and very clean.

The first hour there were only four guys out thanks to the Ironman parking restrictions.   We need more of these.

Today was inconsistent waist to shoulder high.   Got a few really fun ones in the first 45 minutes - but then it started to wane with the tide.   The south energy on the new sandbar in the bay was probably better than the point.   By the time I took these pics it was really dying out.

March 28th

I forgot the camera today.   So you'll have to take my word for it.

It was much better than anticipated; almost brought the longboard but in the end was glad I brought the Monkfish. Waist to shoulder high; caught a few way into the bay.

Whenever I go to Ireland on business I always have Monkfish for dinner once or twice; it's a tasty whitefish.

March 26th

Wind swelly, peaky, uncrowded, shoulder high rights and lefts

It looks better than it was and we won't talk about the faceplant I did on a good left.

Ever have one of those days?

Oh and where did the spring breakers go?   Good riddance!

March 23rd

March Madness
Tuesday was 5 to 7 foot and crowded
I counted 38 people after I got out of the water

March 21st

Sunday March 21st - A few good ones really early - then a slow miserable morning.

Friday, March 19, 2010

Not as clean as the last two days and a little more crowded.

It must be spring break.

This guy looks like the Cardif Kook.

March 18th

Yesterday:

Today:

Same ol' Same ol'

Except, right at dawn a boat pulled into the bay.
I thought it was a Lobster boat at first.
But the boat went all the way to the beach and
around 25 - 30 people all dressed in black and back
packs jumped out of the boat and ran into the
bushes.   Not sure if they were illegal aliens or
Al Qaeda.  I called the boarder patrol when I got
to my car 2 hours later, left a message.

March 13th

Small waves swamped out by the tide - this time I was armed with the longboard.
The Border Patrol and US Customs were searching the lagoon for someone; on foot and with a chopper.

Tiny and cold this morning - had it been 10 degrees warmer.......
Here's a knee high set wave:

March 8th

I ended up not going out on Monday since it didn't look that good and I hadn't been to work for 2 weeks.
I told myself riding down that if it wasn't as good as Friday I would just go to work.   I saw Tom, Dave and Gene up top - they went for it.

March 6th

Today was similar to yesterday only a little smaller and less consistent.   A hard south wind arrived at 8:06 - session ended.   I felt sorry for the two guys who suited up while it was off shore and by the time they made it to the line up - the south wind started blowing hard.   Early birds got the worm.

March 5th

Returned to CA late Tuesday night - missed Wednesday - heard it was 1X overhead!   Checked it out Thursday and didn't go out; too small, disorganized and unfavorable winds.   I think Phil and Tom went out.  Today however was outstanding!  I checked the bouys last night and they wern't showing much so I decided to take the longboard.   Big mistake.   Consistent head high waves, hard offshores and..... wait for it..... only 4 guys out for the first hour and a half.   By the time I got out of the water it was already starting to decrease in size as you can see by the picks below.   You'll just have to trust me that it was twice this size at dawn.

March 1st

A man has got to know his limitations:

2X - 3X overhead

Major wind swell - very disorganized - the locals were having a hard time

Spongers were getting all the good waves:

Looked at hole in the head, S turns, Rainbows and Kaanapali shores - small and blown out.   All I did was watch and wish I were 20 years younger.
