There is nothing better than salt in the air and sand in my hair (what's left of it).

More Pics From Today

I'm out for the next 3 days - somebody's got to get out and push the wagon.

Best Surf Day Of The Month

It wasn’t big, just chest to head high.   But it was consistent, the water was warm (above 60˚) and I counted heads at 7:30, only 13 familiar faces.    I usually don’t stay out past 7:45 or so, but I made an exception today.   I eventually made it work around 10:00.

Crisp and Clean

But just a little too small.  The bay was the way, again. I'm sure it'll be better when the tide drops.  I can't believe how hot it is this afternoon, it's at least 90˚ here in San Juan Capistrano.

Smaller And More Crowded

The first hour was OK but the tide swamped things out early.  What's left of the swell couldn't handle it.

Yesterday was the day.

At Last

A real swell, with real waves.  Wind was off shore, water 60˚ and the first hour there was less than 10 people out.   Even with the 7.0 high tide the waves powered right through.  I felt a little rusty today since it’s been a full week since I last surfed and my gut was a little sore too.   Probably from overeating yesterday.  Even though I ate it a couple of times, I still had some fun ones.

Happy Thanksgiving

Obviously I've got a lot to be thankful for this year.

Didn't surf today even though I knew there were waves.   Too much to do to get ready for the family.

Turkey is in the oven, getting ready to peal the potatoes.

See you tomorrow, for sure.

Flat

It's been flat for days.  I check the buoys every morning and it's the same thing one foot out of the south and 1.6 foot windswell.  Combine this with some massive high tides and it's an easy excuse to sleep in. Here's a diverson:

Flat Again

Checked out State Park to see if there was any sign of surf.  Ankle snappers, went home and took the better half to breakfast.

A Three Mile Tour

Rode down to uppers at dawn, the wind wasn't that bad there just wasn't any swell.  Walked the bikes down to lowers; same deal.   Rode back up and had breakfast at Cafe Del Sol with Dave and Fred.   Maybe tomorrow. Pics are from lowers.

We waited 15 minutes to see this one wave.

Kelp – Fish – Birds

Tons of kelp in the lineup, fish jumping out of the water all around us and the occupy uppers seagulls were still camped out on the beach. They stink worse than the #OWS clowns. Oops, did I just get political, sorry. Water is still above 60˚ and there was a light offshore flow. Waves were knee to waist high and really not worth the effort. But I needed the exercise, there was nobody out and Steve insisted that it was better than it looked. I blame Steve.

Small Playfull Little Waves

Expectations were low today.   Leftover wind swell and a small background south.   Made the best of it, brought the 7-6 quad hull and had a blast.   Plenty of sea gulls in the water and on the beach.  Sea Gulls stink to high heaven; who knows what they do to the water quality.  Yuck!
